“Without promotion, something terrible happens… nothing!” – P. T. Barnum
One of the hardest part of networking is talking about yourself. Even if you are an excellent performer in your current position, you cannot expect your impeccable results alone to speak for you. This Center For Creative Leadership podcast makes a great point of why you need to find the courage to finally start talking about how awesome you are on regular basis.
Self-promotion should paint the big picture of how what you do makes a difference. However, making sure that you are noticed does not have to be unpleasant on you or your audience.
- Don’t be obnoxious.
- Be yourself.
- Know what you have to offer.
- Don’t take credit for someone else’s work.
- Meet the expectation you set.
