Project 1: The Ice Breaker
The Passions of Life
February 12, 2014
Hello. My name is Olga. And I am a workaholic. So much so that my Idaho colleagues used to be surprised, when I took an actual vacation. I read records management policies on my lunch break. I even have company logo on my chapstick.
However, work is not the only thing I care about. You may have already noticed that I am easily excited and passionate about many things. So today I would like to talk to you about passions – about things that are important in my life and things that truly make me who I am.
1. Fitness and Health
First of all, I am very passionate about my mornings. So my passions start early. My alarm is set at exactly 4:10 am. I am up and running. Literally. Rain or shine. On my faithful treadmill.
My number one passion is fitness and health. I am sure you’ve heard all about the importance of watching your diet and how beneficial exercise is for your health. It is true – nobody can ignore the statistics about the increase in heart decease or the fact that the less you weight the longer you will live. But this is not a persuasive speech, so I just want to assure you that I am a true believer in exercising and eating right. I believe… well, I know for sure, that this is the only body I will ever have. So I try to make the best of it. And I have to admit – it is hard work. It is not easy to get up at that early. It is not easy not to eat like a million of those delicious cake pops. But I just try to keep in mind that health is one of those things that you cannot buy. And persevere.
On the other hand, I do not aspire to run marathons. I don’t even diet. When it comes to eating right, I believe in balance and moderation. I do watch very closely what goes into my mouth, but I also have ice cream in the freezer. It falls into the Dairy food group, right?
Since we are talking about food, my number two passion is coffee. I … love … everything coffee. I love the smell of coffee; I love coffee flavor.
I mean have you even heard of all the awesome things that have been discovered about coffee? First of all, it has a ton of antioxidants. It can improve memory and concentration. It stimulates digestive system. It can reduce the risk of diabetes, colon cancer, Parkinson’s disease, you name it. It can stop headaches, improve your mood and even prevent cavities.
Those are, of course, are all the wonderful reasons why I drink at least a pot a day. It is all about balance and moderation. To me coffee is not just a morning ritual – it’s a health food.
Now that you have learned so much about coffee, we can move on to my next passion – learning. I love learning new things. New challenges make me feel alive; they make me feel like a human being. Rene Descartes once said “I think, therefore, I am”. That statement applies to me to the fullest extent. I believe that there is no limit to what human brain is capable of. Especially mine. To me a day is not wasted if I learned even just one new fascinating fact. Such as… “women in insurance make 62 cents per every dollar of their male counterpart”. Wait a minute… So you are telling me that I – with my Master’s degree and an CPCU designation – earn 38% less than the guy in the next cubicle? Trust me – I am seriously passionate about that. But that is a topic of a completely different speech.
In conclusion, I hope this brief introduction gave you a little more insight into who I am and into my type A personality.
Since I still have a few second, I will give you a couple of totally random facts about myself.
- My favorite food is cottage cheese.
- I have a sixth sense – it’s a sense of style. And a passion for fashion.
- My dating profile starts with a word CAUTION.
- Due to the overwhelming exuberance of personality I have to keep my personal and professional blogs separate.
- I do not keep pets, children, or husbands just to be able to drive off to Vegas at moment’s notice.
If you have any additional questions, there are welcome at any time.
